Soak up the Last of Summer in Chattanooga

Posted by on Tuesday, September 20th, 2016 at 12:42pm.

We’re just days away from it officially being fall, but don’t break out the autumn decor and pumpkin candles just yet! Say goodbye to this season and squeeze the last bit of fun out of this summer with these Scenic City warm-weather activities.

1. Cruise along the Tennessee River

Float along the Tennessee River for a relaxing tour with the Tennessee Aquarium’s River Gorge Explorer or enjoy the view via an authentic WWII amphibious landing craft with the Chattanooga Ducks.

2. Rent one of the Chattanooga city bikes.

You’ve seen them everywhere, but have you tried one yet? It’s the perfect weather to grab a bike and give it a spin. Leisurely make your way through North Chattanooga, stopping by Coolidge Park for a game of frisbee and lunch at one of Frazier Avenue’s many awesome eateries from the authentic Greek fare at Opa or a twist on the classic hot dog at Good Dog.

3. Make a splash at Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park/SoakYa Water Park

Going to Lake Winnepesaukah is a Chattanooga rite of passage—but don’t forget they also have a water park! Featuring a lazy river and wave lagoon, as well as water slides and a toddler splash park, SOAKya Water Park is a great way to beat the heat as a family.

4. Shop end of summer sales at Chattanooga’s boutiques

Many of the Scenic City’s best shopping destinations are trying to get rid of summer stock and that means excellent deals! If you can’t make it there before these are gone, you can be one of the first to snag a piece from their fall offerings. Grab a juice at Southern Squeeze in Riverview and make your way over to Alice Blue/Hanover Blue, Verde Boutique and Leafy Street before ending with spaghetti and meatballs at Il Primo. Pro tip—go on Wine Wednesday for $10, $20 and $30 bottles of wine to enjoy with your meal and celebrate your shopping success.

5. Explore the new section of the Riverwalk

The 13-mile-long Riverwalk goes from the Chickamauga Dam to Ross' Landing in downtown Chattanooga, then in front of Cameron Harbor down Cameron Hill from the BlueCross BlueShield headquarters. It follows the river for a while and then makes its way into St. Elmo area with a view of the abandoned U.S. Pipe and Steel foundry. The wide, paved pathways are perfect for families to explore and enjoy the views and public art displays along the way.
