Jazzanooga is sponsoring a special evening, “What Woke Looks Like,” in honor of the upcoming MLK Day Celebration to discuss and envision the future of our civic and art culture in Chattanooga. Through talk, visual art, and musical performance, Jazzanooga and the 800 Collective will facilitate a dialogue and design session on creating a culture where citizens can grow in awareness and connectedness to bring positive change to our communities. Frankenstein 200

When: Noon to 4 p.m.
Where: Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut Street
Cost: Free - $13.95

Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" is rapidly approaching its 200th anniversary! Creative Discovery Museum, in partnership with the National Science Foundation and Arizona State University, will present Frankenstein 200 with activities organized around three important questions: What is life? Why do we create? And what are our responsibilities as creators, scientists and engineers? Guests will make a cam system, or a gear system, to take home; create a scribble brush with an electric toothbrush; use squishy circuits to electrify a dough creature; learn how to make a battery the way he first scientists did; create a unique creature using a mashup of parts and experiment with the human body as a conductor of electricity. All activities are included with Museum admission.

Cost: Free

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is waiving the entrance fee to Point Park, atop Lookout Mountain, on January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This would be a great opportunity to visit and contemplate the reasons soldiers struggled along the mountain slopes during the "Battle Above the Clouds" in 1863 and why 100 years later in 1963, Dr. King reminded us to "let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.” For more information, visit www.nps.gov/chch.
