Where: Stone Cup Coffee House, 208 Frazier Avenue

Curious about self-driving cars, sustainable commuting, and future transportation? Chatt About Science, Chattanooga's science cafe, welcomes UTC computer science professor Dr. Mina Sartipi for a discussion of how Chattanooga's big gig internet is shaping our lives and how we travel around the city. Environmental sensors, smartphone apps, high speed internet, and new transportation options are already changing how residents in urban areas get around. Dr. Sartipi studies how smart cities like Chattanooga can incorporate large amounts of information from all these difference sources to help transportation work better. Their studies can help with a range of problems such as helping urban planners find ways to smooth out traffic and parking problems and helping individuals make commuting choices that are convenient, healthy, and environmentally conscious. Their studies will also help as new transportation options, such as self-driving cars, become widely available.
