May 13-14

Tennessee Medieval Faire

When: 10 am. to 5 p.m.
Where: 500 Fiske Rd., Harriman, TN 37748
Cost: $9 - $17

The 3rd annual TN Medieval Faire allows guests to escape to a more innocent time with chivalry and gallantry while meeting King Arthur and Queen Guinevere as they celebrate their 1st wedding anniversary with a market-day festival. Enjoy live jousting tournaments, warriors’ chess matches, trick shows, interactive comedy, Irish and Celtic music, folk and belly dance and numerous artisans selling original wares made of leather, metal, wood, glass, fabric and more. Food at the event will include turkey legs and beer, of course. There is handicap parking available, but guests should be aware that the festival grounds are rugged and unpaved.


May 13-14

The Consul

When: Sat, May 13 from 7-9:30 p.m. and Sun, May 14 from 2-4:30 p.m.
Where: First Christian Church, 650 McCallie Avenue
Cost: $20; student and senior rates of $15

Opera TN (formerly known as Artisti Affamati) prides itself on taking operas to unusual venues and focuses on regional talent. Directed by Allan Ledford, this cast includes Kirsten Kunkle, Scott Willis, Kristie Hockman McCarthy, Sara Snider Schone, Peter Johnson, Beth DuRoy, Tricial Logsdon, April Lane, Jason Canter, Kim Thompson, and Josh Golden. They portray a wide array of characters most of whom are waiting for their visas to be approved. There will be a panel discussion open to all ticket holders, held one hour prior to curtain on opening and closing nights tying the opera into current and historical events. Representatives from Bridge Refugee Services and Mad Priest Coffee will also be present before the show to discuss their work in the Chattanooga area. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to Bridge Refugee Services to support their ongoing efforts in our area. More information and tickets are available at http://www.operatn.org.

Mother’s Day Celebration at the Chattanooga Market

When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Chattanooga Market, 1829 Carter Street
Cost: Free

Come to the Chattanooga Market for a special Mother's Day celebration wrapped up just for you! Pamper the special lady in your life with a selection of wines and champagnes along with an assortment of locally made treats as she enjoys live music on the EBP stage. Grab some spring flowers, fresh ingredients for a meal tonight, a piece of local art, and voila – you've just made it the best Mother's Day ever!


Wednesday, May 17 

Noontunes: Megan Saunders

When: Noon to 1 p.m.
Where: Miller Plaza, 850 Market Street
Cost: Free

The songs of Megan Saunders build a sense of story and place, with inspiration drawn from exploits, love and insomnia across the back roads of rural America. Megan recently relocated from Santa Cruz, CA, where she opened for several nationally-acclaimed acts with her band, The Driftless. Now a new member of the Chattanooga community, she is currently performing solo and with Jason Reed (guitar) and Ashley Cofield (violin). Noontunes is a weekly, mid-day music performance in Miller Plaza. This series will showcase local talent and offer a platform for artists to be seen and heard every Wednesday in May, June and July from noon to 1 p.m. Each performance will be open to the general public free of charge, live streamed on CityStream Powered by EPB Fiber Optics and recorded and aired later on WUTC.


Friday, May 19

Ballet Tennessee Repertory Performance

When: 7:30-9:30 p.m. 
Where: UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine Street
Cost: $17-19  

The Ballet Tennessee Repertory Performance features the versatility of the Ballet Tennessee Company in a variety of classical and contemporary works, with choreography by Catherine Gaudreau, Brittany Johnson-Mills, Hannah Locke, and Emma Pannkuk. The highlight of the evening is "Dream Awake," a full length original ballet choreographed by Barry VanCura. Ballet Tennessee alumnus LaJeromeny Brown (School of American Ballet) returns to perform the lead in "Dream Awake." He will also dance the Jerome Robbins work, "2 & 3 Part Inventions," courtesy of the Jerome Robbins Trust and School of American Ballet.
