Friday, June 29

The Chattery Presents "Genderally Speaking: Gender, Sexuality & Everything In Between"

When: 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Where: Chattanooga Workspace, 302 W. 6th St.
Cost: $10

This class is an incredibly brief look through the history and application of gender, sexuality, expression, physical sexual characteristics, and why it matters to everyone's day to day lives. We'll discuss the foundation of our identities and what it means to know yourself (and how you know what you know). We'll explore the various levels of attraction that humans experience from no or little attraction, to platonic and romantic attraction, and the words we use to describe those. We'll briefly touch on the importance of gender expression and physical sexual characteristics. The class will conclude with some practical discourse about why this matters for everyone and how we can all learn to know, love, and accept not only who we are but others too. A portion of the proceeds of the class will go to Nooga Diversity Center. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit thechattery.org/classes.

June 29-30

Big Fish

When: 7:30-10 p.m.
Where: The Colonnade Center, 64 Catoosa Circle, Ringgold, GA 30736
Cost: $13-17

Ever After Productions returns to The Colonnade this June with its revival of Big Fish the Broadway Musical! Big Fish tells the larger-than-life tale of Edward Bloom, a man who leads an extraordinary life-according to the stories he tells his son, Will. But Will, who is getting married and expecting a child of his own, doesn't think there's any truth to the extravagant tales his father tells about meeting witches, kissing mermaids, or joining the circus. He doesn't even believe the story of how his father proposed to his mother, Sandra, in a field full of daffodils. When Edward's health begins to decline, Will visits his father and tries one last time to find out the truth behind the tall tales. As Edward and Will's relationship becomes increasingly strained, Will must decide whether to accept his father's wild stories as fact or risk losing him completely. At 2 p.m., guests will gather in the Atrium for a reading of the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson and Uncle Sam characters, followed by child-friendly "bubblewrap" fireworks and a colorful confetti drop.  Immediately following those activities, a 21-Diet Coke geyser salute will honor the military men and women who have served our country along with "Happy Birthday America" cake and ice cream outside on the Museum Plaza. As a thank you to those who protect and serve America, active duty military members and veterans will receive free admission to the Museum on July 4 for their families with presentation of a military ID (good for up to four guests). All activities are included with admission to the Museum. For more information, call 423-756-2738, or visit the Museum's website at www.cdmfun.org.
