Fall Book Sale At Hamilton Place Mall

When: July 31 through August 15, Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Hamilton Place Mall (the upper level near the Sears entrance inside the mall across from Massage Envy) at 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd.
Cost: Free

The Friends of the Chattanooga Public Library is holding its fall book sale beginning today through August 15 at Hamilton Place Mall. Looking for a new read for the summer or to improve a school or classroom library? Thousands of donated books representing many genres including children's books will be available during this sale. Children's books are $1 for hardcover and $.50 for paperback books. Adult fiction and non-fiction hardcover books are $2 and paperback books are $1. There is also a section of special books that are individually priced. Half-price day will be held Friday, August 14 and  Saturday, August 15 will be a $5 bag day where all the books you can fit in a bag are just $5. Saturday, August 1

Vintage Base Ball Match

When: Noon to 2 p.m.
Where: The 6th Cavalry Museum at 6 Barnhardt Circle, Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742
Cost: Free

Vintage base ball (yes, two words) will come to the Chattanooga and North Georgia area with the Lightfoot Club vs. the Mountain City Club on the polo field of the Historic Army Post at Fort Oglethorpe and the 6th Cavalry Museum. Players play by the rules of 1864 base ball as well as use the equipment, costume and culture of the 1860s. Some of the differences include players not using gloves and not having any ungentlemanly behavior (such as spitting and cursing). Be sure to bring your lawn chairs or blankets as there is no bleacher seating on the polo field. The 6th Cavalry Museum will be opened for tours and restroom access.


 

Saturday, August 1

Paws for the Cause featuring Rescues on the Runway

When: 6 p.m.
Where: Celebration Center, 6425 Lee Highway
Cost: $75

The Humane Educational Society will host its annual Paws for the Cause fundraiser featuring a live and silent auction, a three course meal and complimentary wine, beer and margaritas. The event also includes Chattanooga's most unique runway show, Rescues on the Runway, which features some special shelter pets that have found their forever homes along with some great companions who are available for adoption. Monday, August 3

Tennessee River Gorge Trust Benefit

When: 6-9 p.m.
Where: The FEED co. Table & Tavern at 201 W. Main Street downtown
Cost: $50

The newest Southside restaurant, The FEED Co. Table & Tavern, will host a preview party to benefit the Tennessee River Gorge Trust on Monday, August 3. Guests will be the first in town to enjoy the newly renovated Main Street space and taste FEED Co.'s full food and cocktail menu while enjoying live bluegrass by the Old Time Travelers on the patio. Tickets price includes two full drink tickets, access to a buffet featuring the entire food and beverage menu, and a TRGT membership if you are not already a member. The Southside: Historically Speaking

When: 6-7:30 p.m.
Where: Beginning at the corner of Main Street and Market Street.
Cost: $10 per person ($5 for Chattanooga History Center members)

The Chattanooga History Center will present Southside: Historically Speaking, a walking tour led by Senior Educator Caroline Sunderland. Participants will enjoy learning about Chattanooga’s Southside from its days as Montgomery Avenue through its recent revitalization.
