5 Ideas for Celebrating Mother’s Day in Chattanooga

Posted by on Thursday, May 4th, 2017 at 12:12pm.

She gave you life, taught you everything you need to know and has had your back since day one! Now’s the time to show your mom some appreciation this May 14 in honor of Mother’s Day and in honor of all she’s done for you. But we say, don’t stop there! Here are some of our favorite ideas for celebrating Mom all month long in Chattanooga:

1. Take her shopping at a local boutique or gallery

If you don’t know what to get your mom for Mother’s Day, why not take her out shopping and just pay attention to what she likes. If you can make it out this weekend together, you’ll still have plenty of time to sneak back to the store before next weekend. We recommend checking out Sophie’s Shoppe for beautiful home furnishings and jewelry by local artisans, Plum Nelly Shop & Gallery for handmade pottery and art, or Anna Ball White for beautiful clothing and accessories.

2.  Dress up and take her on the town for dinner and a show

In perfect timing for Mother’s Day, local theatre company Closed Door Entertainment is hosting its Stage & Screen Dinner Cabaret on May 13 at the grand Celebration Ballroom located at 6425 Lee Hwy. This is the perfect excuse to get dolled up for a night out, which will begin with dinner at 7 p.m. and the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Some of the area’s most talented singers will be coming together to perform some of your favorite hits from the stage and also the movie screen. Full disclosure—the writer of this blog will also be performing in the show and, naturally, bringing her mom. You don’t want to miss it! 3.  Spend time with her at Chattanooga Market’s Mother’s Day Celebration on May 14

Most moms just want more time with their kids, so give her that gift with a full day of wandering the Chattanooga Market together. The market is a ready-made gift giving paradise with handmade wares, to-die-for desserts and gorgeous flowers that vendors will arrange into bouquets for you right there on the spot. The market will have a selection of wines and champagnes along with an assortment of locally made treats for mom to enjoy while she listens to the live music on the EBP stage. If you really want to go for extra bonus points, buy fresh ingredients and invite her over for a homemade dinner (that she doesn’t have to make herself).

4. Bring her to Mother’s Day brunch

Chattanooga is not short on amazing places to brunch. Be sure to make reservations in advance for this special occasion, as brunch on a regular day in the Scenic City is already packed. We recommend 1885 for a Southern Coastal twist on the regular brunch menu, Food Works with its $1 mimosas, FIVE Chattanooga for jazz music while you nosh or Easy Bistro for a more upscale dining experience. Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong.

5. Treat her to a Southern Belle Riverboat cruise

If you’ve done to death the route of shopping, gift cards or dinner out to celebrate Mom, here is something a little different and distinctly “Chattanooga” to try. The Southern Belle Riverboat offers a two-hour cruise with live music, tours of the pilot house and a buffet-style meal on May 14 with two times available at 1-3p.m. and 6-8 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets to reserve your spot, call 423-266-4488.
