Sometimes you feel the need to get away and explore somewhere new. Other times, it's all about keeping it local and breaking up the normal routine. Dubbed a "staycation", here’s are some ways to enjoy a fantastic mini respite without leaving Chattanooga.
Outdoor Escapades
Chattanooga is often dubbed the “Scenic City” for a reason. Believe it or not, there are many who live in our gorgeous Chatt and have never visited well-known outdoor attractions. It's time to change that! Explore the famous Rock City Gardens, where winding paths lead you through lush gardens with stunning views of the surrounding valley. For an affordable experience, visit Point Park, where you can take in panoramic views of the city and enjoy a peaceful stroll through Civil War history.
If you’re looking to get active, the Tennessee Riverwalk is an excellent choice. This 13-mile scenic trail stretches along the river and offers opportunities for walking, cycling, and even kayaking. Rentals are available for those who don’t have their own gear. For a more thrilling experience, the Raccoon Mountain Caverns offers both guided tours and an adventurous underground cave experience.
Family Time
Chattanooga is packed with family-friendly activities that are sure to keep everyone entertained. The Tennessee Aquarium is a popular spot for visitors of all ages, featuring fascinating exhibits like freshwater and saltwater habitats, along with a playful penguin habitat. For families on a budget, you can enjoy the Chattanooga Zoo, which offers a variety of animals and interactive exhibits at an affordable price.
For a more unique experience, head to The Creative Discovery Museum, a hands-on, interactive space perfect for young children. It offers everything from art projects to science experiments and is sure to inspire little minds. Additionally, the Chattanooga Choo Choo and the surrounding area provide fun with trains and historic sites.
Indoor Fun
If you’re looking for indoor activities or if the weather doesn’t cooperate, Chattanooga has plenty of options for a cozy, fun-filled day. The Hunter Museum of American Art offers an impressive collection of contemporary and classic art, perfect for those who appreciate culture and history. For extra beauty points, the museum's modern building overlooks the Tennessee River.
For something more low-key, head to Tennessee Stillhouse, where you can learn about Tennessee whiskey distillation and enjoy a tour and tasting. If you’re more into trying new things, visit Urban Stack, a local favorite for gourmet burgers with a side of local craft beer. For a more indulgent day, check out one of the numerous local spas, where you can treat yourself to a rejuvenating massage or spa experience.
Treat Yourself
If you need a change of scenery outside of your own home, consider booking a room at a local hotel. The Chattanooga Choo Choo offers both historic charm and modern amenities. Another affordable option is The Crash Pad, a stylish yet budget-friendly hostel perfect for singles or couples on a smaller budget.
If you prefer a more upscale experience, the Westin Chattanooga offers a luxurious stay right in the heart of downtown. With a rooftop pool, fine dining, and easy access to many of Chattanooga’s top attractions, it's an ideal spot for those looking to unwind in style.
Pack your bags (or not!) and enjoy all that Chattanooga has to offer—no passport required!
