Closed Door Entertainment's West Side Story

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to 1950's New York City as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. Spring Plant Sale & Festival

When: April 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; April 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Crabtree Farms, 1000 E. 30th St. 
Cost: Free

The 17th Annual Spring Plant Sale and Festival at Crabtree Farms will once again offer gardeners healthy, sustainably-grown fruit, vegetable, flower and herb plant starts for their spring and summer gardens. Guests can enjoy free gardening workshops, live music, food, fun-on-the-farm activities for kids, and handcrafted items from local artisans. Over 100 varieties of plants will be available at the sale. Mike Barron, Crabtree Farm's green house manager, grows and propagates the plants with help from community volunteers. Specific plant varieties are tested on the farm to ensure that the plants are well suited to grow in the Chattanooga region.


Saturday, April 8

Sculpture Fields 1st Anniversary Celebration

When: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Sculpture Fields at Montague Park, 1800 Polk Street
Cost: Free

It's a day of family fun on the Southside when Sculpture Fields celebrates its first anniversary. You'll see the installation of a monumental 60-foot steel sculpture by internationally known sculptor John Henry, enjoy the melodies of CSO's wind ensemble, picnic from fun food trucks, experience artists creating their paintings and drawings outdoors, and finish off the day with witnessing the awe-inspiring sculpture burn of a 15-foot wooden structure by artist Andrew Nigh when he sets his creation ablaze.

Chattanooga Crafts & Drafts

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Station Street, 20 Station St. 
Cost: Free

Crafts & Drafts is a curated exhibition of handmade goods from local and regional artisans, paired with tasty craft beers from local and regional breweries. Come prepared to sip, shop, and enjoy food trucks, art exhibits and more. For more information, visit craftychatt.com.

Art + Issues: Coming to America

When: 6-7 p.m.
Where: Hunter Museum of American Art, 10 Bluff View
Cost: Free - $15

As our community grows with new residents, we all grow with richer cultural understanding and experiences. In this art + issues, Sasha Hasanbegovic, a founder of Coming to America: The Story of Us" will use a work of art in Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art to lead a dialogue on ways we can grow as a welcoming community. Like all art + issues programs this hour long event is free to all in the community.
