October is here which means the leaves will be changing colors soon here in Chattanooga! Our town offers some amazing and unique opportunities to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage. The city is surrounded by the scenic Appalachian Mountains and offers various locations where you can experience the vibrant colors of autumn. We’ve put together a list of where you can find the best views as the season changes.
Lookout Mountain | Lookout Mountain is one of the most popular spots for fall foliage in Chattanooga. You can visit Rock City Gardens, which offers stunning views of the surrounding forests and valleys including a point where you can see 7 different states. The Lover's Leap trail on Lookout Mountain is another great option for hiking and enjoying fall colors.
Ruby Falls | Ruby Falls, located inside Lookout Mountain, is famous for its underground waterfall. The cave tour also allows you to explore the beautiful rock formations and experience a unique perspective of autumn.
Signal Mountain | Signal Mountain, located just a short drive from downtown Chattanooga, offers scenic overlooks and hiking trails with excellent views of fall foliage. Signal Point and Rainbow Lake Trail are great options for outdoor enthusiasts.
Prentice Cooper State Forest | This state forest is about 30 minutes from downtown Chattanooga and offers numerous hiking trails and scenic overlooks. The Snoopers Rock Trail is particularly known for its stunning views of the Tennessee River Gorge and fall foliage.
Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center | This nature center has miles of trails and a diverse range of trees, making it a great place to witness fall colors. You can hike or drive through the grounds and enjoy the changing leaves.
Raccoon Mountain Caverns | While exploring the underground caves at Raccoon Mountain Caverns, you can also enjoy the above-ground scenery. The area around the caverns offers beautiful fall foliage.
The Tennessee River | Taking a scenic boat ride along the Tennessee River during the fall season can provide you with unique views of the changing leaves along the riverbanks. If the weather becomes a bit chilly for a boat ride, you can also take a walk along the Tennessee River Walk for a serene experience.
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park | This historic park not only offers a glimpse into Civil War history but also features beautiful wooded areas with fall foliage. The park has several trails and picnic areas where you can enjoy the colors of autumn.
