Recently named one of the Best Places to Travel in 2023 by Forbes, Chattanooga is a one of a kind experience! Nestled in the valley bordered by gorgeous mountains with the Tennessee River running through the middle, Chattanooga is truly an amazing place to not just visit, but also live. If you're looking to make a move outside of your current city, here are 10 reasons why you should consider Chattanooga to be your next home.
City & nature
Chattanooga has the perfect balance of city and nature. Downtown Chattanooga is always buzzing with commuters as well as tourists enjoying local attractions and restaurants. If you drive just minutes outside of the downtown area, you’ll find access to the Tennessee River, walking and hiking trails, and so much more!
Not only is the city centrally located to attractions, but also major hubs like Nashville and Atlanta. Whether you are looking for a connecting flight, a concert venue, or just a fun day trip, Chattanooga is only a short drive away.
While Chattanooga does have your typical larger chains and franchise stores, we also love to support our local businesses! You’ll find amazing local restaurants and shop throughout the city as well as markets throughout the week including our big market (Chattanooga Market) that provides an opportunity to buy food, art, services, and more from local small businesses. There is also quite the music scene!
Always something to do
While we may be a “smaller city” compared to Nashville or Atlanta, you’ll never be short on something to do. Rain or shine, Chattanooga has plenty of attractions around town including the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Zoo, Rock City Ruby Falls, and the list truly goes on. Don’t forget about Hamilton Place Mall and Northgate Mall if you’re looking for a bit of retail therapy. If you are looking for more outdoor activities, the Tennessee River runs straight through our city for some serious water fun and is also bordered by gorgeous mountains that have endless hiking trails.
There is something for everyone
One of our most favorite things about Chattanooga is that there really is something for everyone! There is a community for bikers, hikers, runners, kayakers, potters, beer connoisseurs, stay-at-home moms, climbers, historians, trivia enthusiasts, retirees, growing families, and the list goes on and on. Whether you are looking to continue a hobby or find something new, Chattanooga is the place you want to be!
We get all 4 seasons
Unlike many cities, Chattanooga weather experiences all four seasons. Our winters are cold and sometimes we get a bit of snow. Our Spring season is filled with spring showers, lovely blooms, and a warmer temperature. Summer days are warmer and the perfect time to spend on the water. Then there is fall. You cannot beat fall in Chattanooga. Not only is the weather a perfect temperature, but the changing leaves are unbeatable! Red, orange, and yellow paint the town and the surrounding mountains for the most lovely views!
Chattanooga has some of the fastest growth when it comes to job opportunities. Home to major factories like Amazon and Volkswagen, Chattanooga has seen impressive growth in job opportunities over the past few years. Because of the new economic growth, we’ve also seen significant growth in the number of houses being built to accommodate.
EPB Fiber Optics
Many people are still working from home and having good internet is key to having a successful career. Nicknamed “Gig City,” Chattanooga is home to EPB’s Fiber Optics that has the country’s first community-wide 25 gig network and is continuing to break barriers for innovations!
Tennessee is one of only a few states that does not have income taxes. This means come tax season, you only have to pay federal taxes instead of both federal and state.
We are a community!
We may be a growing city where our population has continuously increased, but we still hold on to our hometown feel. Our growth has only given our residents more opportunities to flourish in their careers, hobbies, at home, and really every aspect of their lives. Chattanooga has the balance of a city that is large enough to not feel constantly crowded, but still small enough to enjoy a welcoming hometown vibe.
